Some Catagories Not Working

BrewskieMar 15, 2007 10:21am
When I try to stumble under certain catagories, such as Paranormal, I am not taken to an appropriate video. It only shows a vid from the general list of vids to stumble into.

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.2 with several extension like "NoScript" but NoScript is set to allow scripts as other video catagories are working.

It could be that you have seen all the paranormal videos we have. When you run out of videos in a certain channel, you are redirected back to all channels. We could be better about messaging when this happens though.

thx,

How about looping back to the beginning?

Because if I were to jump into the middle of the list than I would have missed the first half.

Oh, we don't go through a list in order or anything like that. We recommend you videos based on your taste. But once you've seen all the videos in that channel (in whatever order the system determines for you) then, you're out of Paranormal videos. And like everything on StumbleUpon, we never show you the same thing twice (though you can always get back to it via your blog).

cheers,
e

I've been through my profile (blog) but I can't find a place to reset the stumble for Paranormal. Is that what you meant?

IS there a way to reset your stumbling to start from the beginning?

There are other tags that I don't have access to now as well. I'd like to get them all to work again.

Thanks for your help :)

No worries. :) There's not a way to "reset" per se. We just never want our community of users to see the same thing twice -- that already happens too much on the web. You can start another account, or look through your blog and revisit the pages you have thumbed up in the paranormal category.

Another issue is, there's just not that many paranormal videos on YouTube, Google, MySpace, or Metacafe (versus bizarre or humor for instance).

I have experienced this problem with the science/technology channel - which is very popular and very populated) and because that is such a vast category it should not have to do with a lack of available videos (though I guess it is possible that I've watched them all?).

I have two systems, and on one (computer A) everything works fine with this account and the science/tech channel. However when I try to stumble the science/tech channel on the other (computer B) I will get videos which are not categorized as science or tech.

Additionally, when I click a channel it typically is listed down by the channel flyout button such as "All > humor". When I click the science/tech button, however, the category is only listed momentarily and then disappears from the channel flyout button such that I see only "All" listed rather than "All > Science/Technology" as I will see on my other computer.

I have tested this with different versions of firefox and with the IE plugin.

It is physical install and account specific. On computer A everything works fine in all instances with no lack of function. Only on computer B while also logged into this account do I experience the issue:

*If I am logged-in, the category will malfunction.

*If I log out, the category functions properly.

*If I create a new account, the category functions properly.
